Business is for everyone. In the College of Business, we value diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Sometimes we say, "DEIB." No matter who you are, where you're from how you identify, our mission is helping you feel that sense of belonging.
Because business has many opportunities for many people, I'm a first-generation student, so I didn't really have connections or know anyone coming into Manhattan. Coming into the College of Business, it feels like home, the people here are welcoming. They want-- they care, but also the students here, the people that you'll meet in classes and stuff like that are in your major, specific major, a really like a team type of thing.
The Rise Up Scholars is a program that we created for traditionally marginalized populations. And so it's a great opportunity to come together as a community, to get some support, to have some scholarship dollars available, and to get some special experiences, things like field trips and other classes where they come together as a group.
Signature summer programs are mapped in Compass and they're a program over the summer, where we bring in students from different backgrounds that allow them to experience college. They've maybe never had a chance to experience college before.
We're really proud of the fact that about a third of our students are first-generation students the first in their family to ever go to college. And we recognize that that's a challenge for some students. So we want to be able to support them and let them know what this is all about.
One of our goals is to make business feel welcoming and accessible to everybody. That's one of the reasons that we created our Women in Business Initiative. One of the things that I want is for them to be able to see themselves in whatever profession that they choose. And so one of the ways that we do that is through intentional mentoring, through networking opportunities, and so many of the other activities through the program.
Las colega negocios es para todos basically means, "College of Business is for everyone."
